The rumor, and why it was plausible
The xXx franchise’s odd history made the claim credible from the start. The 2002 original made Vin Diesel’s Xander Cage the poster child of extreme-sports espionage; Diesel skipped the sequel, so 2005’s State of the Union replaced him with Ice Cube’s Darius Stone and reported Xander dead off screen.
