Over the last few years, Tom Hardy has kind of become a revelation. The guy puts in incredible work after incredible work, and always seems to be looking for another challenge. Well, it looks like he may have got that very challenge as his new movie, Legend, has Hardy playing twins. Not only that, but these twins are two of London’s most iconic gangsters who have completely different personalities, only upping the ante for Hardy.
Legend just got its first trailer and it’s just ruthlessly entertaining. Once again I am looking forward to seeing Hardy give us a deep and fascinating performance.
During the 1950s and 1960s, West End nightclub owners and twins Ronald & Reginald Kray rub shoulders with prominent entertainers including Diana Dors, Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland, and with politicians. But they also take part in murder, armed robbery, arson, racketeering, assault, and more. Reggie (older by 10 minutes) tries to control the psychotic tendencies of his younger twin. They are arrested in May 1968 and are both sentenced to life imprisonment.
Hardy has easily become one of my favorite actors to watch over the last few years. Warrior, Lawless, The Dark Knight Rises, Locke, The Drop, this year’s insanely beautiful Mad Max: Fury Road, and even Netflix’s Peaky Blinders. Every role he’s doing, every film he’s in, it’s truly a must watch. The film may end up being just okay but you always walk away amazed by Hardy’s performance. And now that he’s giving a double dose and playing characters such as the Kray twins – hell yeah, I can’t wait.
Legend hits theaters October 2nd, 2015. Directed by Brian Helgeland starring Tom Hardy, Taron Egerton, Emily Browning, David Thewlis, and Christopher Eccleston.
