4DX Movie Theaters have arrived in the U.S.

When it comes to going to the movies, I’m very selective about which auditorium I’ll watch a certain movie in. Like Comic Book films I will no doubt watch in 3-D/XD (Extreme Digital). I want the full experience, regardless of the price. Most other movies I’ll watch in standard auditoriums, it really depends on the movie though. I love going to the movies for the escape and I’m always open to try new things that will up the experience.

This past weekend, new theater technology known as 4DX was used in the United States for the first time. Regal Cinemas L.A. LIVE Stadium 14 in Downtown Los Angeles is the first of many planned locations to show movies in 4DX. Created by the South Korean company CJ 4DPlex, the technology is truly a step up in offering more in a movie theater experience. Using all five of your senses, 4DX looks to take you deeper into the world of your movie, the closest you have ever been. I will let the video below explain for you, which does so at the 2:10 mark.

It’s certainly worth at least a try if your a film fan. Be careful which movie you decided to watch in 4DX though. My concerns for this new experience are toward the motion seats. Yes, I find it cool that the seats roll side to side, heave up and down, and pitch back and forth. I just don’t want to spill my drink on me or some dude’s overly buttered popcorn thrown all over my clothes. Maybe I’m being silly, but you never know.

From the reports this past weekend, it sounds like a lot of people enjoyed the 4DX. The first film played in the theater was Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier“, which is very fitting for the first time. I can only imagine the experience of 4DX with the amount of action in that film. Events during the screening included air blowing toward your face as bullets flied across the screen and the seat jolting when Cap threw his shield. I’d pay up to have that experience.

Speaking of paying, it is a high price to purchase a 4DX ticket. According to reports, a ticket to a film like “Transformers: Age of Extinction” will cost you $26.75. I’d imagine with a run time of 2 hours and 45 minutes, that a lot of water, motion, air, etc. Still, life is all about experience and every experience is not without a try. So I’ll definitely be looking for one of these in my neck of the woods. Which may be awhile, hopefully by the time “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” is released.
