‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Concept Art Reveals One of the Monsters Star-Lord & Co. Will Be Facing

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story isn’t the only outer-space adventure fans are eagerly awaiting in the next so many months. The follow-up to Marvel’s 2014 smash hit, Guardians of the Galaxy, will be one of the massive headliners in 2017. Now so far we know that the sequel will be taking the story in a direction the original left us with, Star-Lord’s father. It’s been teased for quite some time, with director James Gunn even flat-out saying, that the sequel will be a contained story that focuses on the origins of the Guardians team leader. That does seem like it’ll be the case, but that isn’t all that will take place.

Whether it’s any kind of connection to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe or a few villains or tons of action, we will be seeing much more than just Star-Lord and his Father. Earlier today, Empire Magazine revealed an exclusive piece of concept art, which is not only a new, totally awesome look at the Guardians (baby Groot!), but also features one of the monsters the team will battle with come next May.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Concept Art

Described by Empire as “the product of a particularly successful Tinder date between an exogorth and a sarlacc,” it’s only being revealed as a “furry octo-moster” at this time. The exclusive does not say whether or not this monster is just set up as a badass action sequence to lock you back in to this team of nut-balls or possibly a minion of a larger villain, such as Elizabeth Debicki’s alien Ayesha, who “is hungry for vengeance after [the Guardians] stitch her up early in the piece and has an army to help her on that mission.”

The image itself is pretty freaking awesome. Anything Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 I’m buying. One of the most fun, surprising, and just groovy inter-galactic disco movies of the last few years, one that nobody saw coming. What James Gunn was able to accomplish with that film is nothing short of phenomenal, they couldn’t have picked a better director to lead this franchise. It has me very, very excited to see what he has in store for us with what will no doubt be one psychedelic sequel. Gunns Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5th, 2017 and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Kurt Russel, Elizabeth Debicki, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Sylvester Stallone, and Glenn Close.
