Back in 2017, 20th Century Fox released the revamped version of the famous Agatha Christie novel Murder on the Orient Express. The movie had been made once before in 1974 but hasn’t been remade since then. The movie caught a lot of peoples attention with the amazing cast that had been assembled for the movie. The cast included Penelope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Dame Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Josh Gad, Tom Bateman, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Daisy Ridley just to name a few. The lead character of the world famous detective Hercule Poirot was played by Kenneth Branagh who also directed the movie. On top of all of that Ridley Scott helped produce the movie as well!

While the movie wasn’t received as one of the best movies of all time, it did very well at the box office raking in $352.8 million dollars on a $55 million dollar budget and got decent reviews. It did well enough to warrant a follow up movie and the idea of a second movie went clearly into action. Agatha Christie’s books weren’t written as sequels, instead they are written as different stories revolving around the main character of detective Hercule Poirot. So for the next movie we won’t be seeing a sequel involving the same cast, instead it will be another adventure following Hercule Poirot.

At the end of Murder on the Orient Express, there was a scene where a messenger asks him to investigate a “death on the nile.” This was immediately our first clue as to what the follow-up movie was going to be. Agatha Christie published a book titled Death on the Nile, which told the story of a rich heiress who was found murdered on a steam boat trip on the Nile river. Not much is known about the movie other than that it will more than likely follow closely to the novel. There has been some previous casting however as Kenneth Branagh as well as Tom Bateman will be reprising their roles in the sequel. As far as new cast members Gal Gadot has been cast as Heiress Linnet as well as Armie Hammer who will player her lover Simon Doyle.

The movie was thought to maybe be put on hold due to Disney’s purchase of 20th Century Fox, but it seems that the movie is still in pre-production as we have learned of the newest cast member to join the movie. Actress Letitia Wright has signed on to join the cast of Death on the Nile in an undisclosed role. Wright is of course known for her role as Shuri in 2018’s massive Marvel hit Black Panther. She was arguably one of the best parts of the movie, stealing scenes when she was in them and making her presence known through out the movie. She will be a fantastic addition to the cast and were curious to see who she will play in the movie.
