Watch the First Trailer for Netflix’s New Horror Movie ‘The Silence’ Starring Kiernan Shipka & Stanley Tucci

Netflix has released the first trailer for their upcoming horror film The Silence. Directed by John R. Leonetti (Annabelle), the film is based off the acclaimed novel of the same name, which is set in a world that is now under attack from terrifying creatures that hunt their prey by sound. The story follows a 16-year old girl named Ally (Kiernan Shipka), who lost her hearing when she was 13, and her family as they seek refuge in a remote safe haven, only to discover a cult that’s eager to exploit Ally’s heightened senses.

It’s obvious that the first thought that comes to mind when watching this trailer is that this is Netflix’s version of the 2019 smash-hit A Quiet Place, and yes that’s true. With the ridiculous success that filmed accomplished, as well as another Netflix monster in Bird Box, it’s a no-brainer that the streaming service went and adapted a very similar story.

While the trailer didn’t blow excite me to the level of both A Quiet Place and Bird Box, it’s full of both strong and chilling moments, as well as somewhat generic moments. However, for myself, I’m more focused on those who are in those moments rather than the moments themselves. I really dig this cast, which is led by Shipka and the always great Stanley Tucci, except in that obnoxious Transformers role of his. Shipka has shot up my young actress line-up after her dominance in Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. She’s insanely good in that role and I’m excited to see how else her talents have evolved since her days on Mad Men. As I mentioned, Tucci is always a great addition, as it Miranda Otto, who always seems to give fantastic performances in horror movies.

Check out the first official trailer for Netflix’s new film below, and after doing so, please leave your thoughts in the comments below! How did you feel about the trailer? Does it look scary or are you out of it because of its similarities? Leonetti’s The Silence will debut on Netflix on April 10th.
