Disney and Pixar have given us quite a surprise this morning, as the first official full-length trailer for this year’s biggest animated featured and most popular animated franchise of all-time has been released. Inside Out co-writer Josh Cooley has stepped into the franchise for Toy Story 4, with the fourth installment being the first in the franchise post John Lasseter, the studio head who parted ways with the company last year after sexual misconduct allegations came out against him. The film has gone through its fair share of issues since its announcement back in 2014, but after a complete re-haul a few years ago, Cooley stepped in and is giving Woody and friends an “every ending is a new beginning” approach.

What can I really say? These movies are always magical, no matter who is involved. Out of all the franchises Disney has in their possession, this is the one we can continuously count on. While a fourth installment was never really expected, it’s no doubt a happy surprise to have after thinking Toy Story 3 was the last time we’d see our favorite toys.

What’s cool about the look of this film is that Cooley has a lot to play with. Just from this small bit of footage, it’s obvious the story will dig deep into many themes of nostalgia, loss and others that will have the usual impact of a Toy Story movie. This is definitely a new adventure for these characters and Cooley seems to be taking advantage of the opportunity to give us something we haven’t seen before. With the addition of new characters like Forky and bringing back of fan-favorite Bo Peep, it’s definitely a new age of toy’s stories.
