While we know absolutely nothing about Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, we now know who will be starring in this mystery project for the big time director. Any news of this project right now is gold, as more so than ever, Nolan is keeping this one to the chest. There were rumblings recently about what kind of film it could be, but those were quickly shot down, with no one actually confirming those reports. Whatever it turns out to be, it’s a Nolan film, which means it was a must see before it was even announced.
Variety reported earlier this afternoon that Nolan has casted his lead actor for the film, which lands in the lap of Ballers and BlackKklansman star John David Washington. Washington has been kicking butt on Dwayne Johnson’s HBO series Ballers from the beginning, but broke out into the mainstream eye thanks to a ridiculously good performance in Spike Lee’s BlackKklansman, where he played Ron Stallworth, a real-life African-American police officer who infiltrated the Klu Klux Klan, earning him Best Actor nominations at both the Golden Globes and SAG Awards.
As I’ve mentioned, we know nothing about anything for this project. Washington’s casting is the first concrete piece we have for the film, and with expectations that it will begin shooting this summer/fall, this could be the first domino of many in the next few weeks/months. As for what kind of film, previous reports of what it will be have been shut down, but in Variety’s report, they describe the film as “a massive, innovative, action blockbuster, which will again be shown in Imax.” That sounds like the typical Nolan film, but think more along the lines of Interstellar with a different plot/setting.
Whatever kind of film it is, the studio has some major confidence behind it, obviously, as they’ve slotted the movie for a July 18th, 2020 release date. Not only are Nolan’s movies usually released around that time, but it just makes sense for a “massive” film it’s being described as. What do you think of this casting? Is Washington a great choice? How pumped are you for Nolan’s new movie? Are you happy with the secrecy or want to see more now? Sound off below!
