After adding the entire Hollywood roster to his upcoming film, Denis Villeneuve has officially begun filming his adaptation of the classic sci-fi novel Dune. The film is backed by Warner Bros. and is based on the Frank Herbert novel of the same name, which also had a film adaptation back in the ’80s. While the official cast is set for the film, Villeneuve just couldn’t help himself and continue on without adding one major name that finishes the puzzle quite nicely.
Villeneuve has assembled one of the best casts for in front of the memory in recent memory, but he’s working just as hard behind-the-scenes and has quietly hired some of the best names in the business. Along with the announcement of production, it was revealed that legendary composer Hans Zimmer will be scoring the project, which has instantly turned the score into a must-buy. It almost makes sense as Zimmer worked with Benjamin Wallfisch on that insanely great score for Blade Runner 2049, Villeneuve’s most recent film.
Alongside Zimmer, the rest of the crew includes Rogue One and Vice cinematographer Greig Fraser, costume designers Jacqueline West (The Revenant) and Bob Morgan, as well as Villeneuve himself once again working with editor Joe Walker (Arrival) and Sicario‘s production designer Patrice Vermette. That’s a creative dream team.
As I’ve mentioned, the cast for this project is outrageous, absolutely outrageous. First of all, Villeneuve casted everyone’s current Hollywood crush in Timothée Chalamet to lead the project, playing the role of Paul Antreides, “a young man born into destiny who must travel the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people.” Chalamet will be joined by Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Stellan Skarsgård, Jason Momoa, Dave Bautista, David Dastmalchian, Charlotte Rampling, and Stephen Henderson. I mean come on.
The announcement of production also came with an official synopsis for the film, which sets the stage perfectly for this thrilling intergalactic adventure Villeneuve has been waiting to tell. What do you think of this news? Is Zimmer the perfect choice to score the project? How about that cast? Which actor are you most excited to see in the movie? Sound off in the comments section below! Villeneuve’s Dune will be released on November 20th, 2020.
A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people.
