As promised, Paramount Pictures has released the first full-length trailer for the upcoming Elton John biopic Rocketman. Although the movie is only about four months away, this is the first real trailer we’ve seen for the project after seeing two previous teases. It’s a very interesting marketing approach, but makes sense as they may be doing their best effort to separate themselves from last year’s big musical biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody. The film is described a musical fantasy biopic and is directed by Dexter Fletcher (Eddie the Eagle) and stars Taron Egerton as John in the most unusual, yet interesting biopic maybe ever created for film as it will retell the life of John both personally and professionally.
This is quite interesting. As I mentioned above, the marketing approach for this film so far has been very unique compared to past musical biopics. We’ve been led on to believe that the fantasy element of this film will be a pretty decent size, but this official trailer from below only shows very small moments of that. It could very well be kept behind the vault so they aren’t spoiling anything, but it just feels like the film is going to be your everyday biopic, which is something we all don’t want to see. Elton John is a legend, a larger than life figure who deserves to have that fantasy element be told alongside his story. Hopefully it is just being kept under wraps for now and the final product will just not hold back when it comes to those teased fantasy elements.
Watch the first official trailer below and make sure to leave your thoughts in the comments section as well! How did you react to the trailer? Did you feel the same as I did or do you feel opposite? What about Egerton as John? Also starring Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, Gemma Jones and Bryce Dallas Howard, Fletcher’s Rocketman will debut on May 31st.
