For years, fans have been begging and pleading to see the bad boys of Miami reunite on screen for one last ride. It was happening, then it wasn’t, then it was again. Sometimes it was hard to believe we’d ever see Will Smith and Martin Lawrence back together, it just became the most official of official. Filming on the third Bad Boys movie has been going on for a few weeks, and while it still has a long ways to go, they know we’re just itching for some kind of look at this project. And thanks to Will Smith and his hugely popular Instagram, we have our first look at he and Lawrence back as bad boy partners Mike and Marcus.
Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are taking over for Michael Bay this time around, with Joe Pantoliano also returning to his role as Captain Howard. While we wait to see which other familiar faces may make appearances, the project also added some new young blood to the mix, with Alexander Ludwig (Vikings), Vanessa Hudgens (Rent: Live) and Charles Melton (Riverdale) joining the franchise as what’s being described as a “modern, highly specialized police unit,” which obviously means they’ll be the “new guard” that clashes with the old and explosive ways of Mike and Marcus. It’ll definitely add an interesting wrinkle to the mix, but let’s hope we still see plenty of the real craziness that the original bad boys always brought. This addition also screams Bad Boys spinoff, which is more than likely the case, but hopefully still a ways out with both Smith and Lawrence being excited to reunite for more movies.
With Smith being such a prominent presence on Instagram over the last year, expect him to take Dwayne Johnson approach to Bad Boys for Life. While it may not be to that extent, we could definitely see some fun posts from the star in the coming months as they finish production. Until then, check out the first official look at the movie below, courtesy of Smith’s Instagram. Bad Boys for Life is slated for an early January 17th, 2020 release date.
