With Avengers: Endgame coming out in just a few months, fans of the universe and Marvel overall are preparing to experience a plethora of changes moving forward. We’ve been told time and time again that Endgame will not only mark the end of the MCU’s first decade of storyline, but also mark a new beginning for it as well. There’s obviously plenty of ways for that to take place, but according to a new report or “rumor,” Marvel Studios May currently be working on the idea that will transition the MCU for the next decade.
The report comes from We Got This Covered, where they state that sources close to them are telling them that a “New Avengers movie is in the early stages of development over at Marvel.” However, let’s be clear. When they say “New Avengers,” their sources are actually saying a Young Avengers Movie. How and why? That is all based around the characters they are hearing are involved.
The film could very well be titled New Avengers, but when you have a character lineup that includes Kate Bishop (Hawkeye), Iron Lad, Hulkling, Patriot, Wiccan, Stature, and another version of Vision, it’s no doubt a Younf Avengers type story. The Young Avengers in comic books are basically the side-kicks / new generation of heroes coming up the Marvel ranks. This makes sense in multiple ways, but one may have already been set in motion thanks to a casting in Endgame.
Actress Emma Fuhrmann was cast a long time ago in the film, with her role being kept underwraps for a bit. Her role was finally revealed to be Cassie Lang, the daughter of Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang. You may be asking yourself How considering how young she is in the timeline, but that’s where the Young Avengers come into play. Endgame has long been considered to have a big time travel element to the film, and with all these reports coming out, it seems we’ll be following our current team to a point in time where we could quickly see these Young Avengers on screen, setting up the film for down the road. If anything, we could just come into contact with Fuhrmann’s Cassie Lang, aka Stature. 13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford was also casted in the film, with her role being kept underwraps but many speculating that she’ll appear as Kate Bishop alongside Fuhrmann’s Stature.
Not only does this all stay in line with what we’ve been seeing, but hearing as well. Let’s not overlook Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige’s comments from last year, where he revealed that Cassie’s prominent involvement in the Ant-Man movies was to “plant seeds” for a Young Avengers Movie down the line. It looks like that could be coming sooner than we expected.
The team being rumored is also a pretty darn good fit for what the MCU is currently. We already talked about the connections Stature and Kate Bishop have, which also happens for the rest of the young squad as well. Hulkling and Patriot are young heroes inspired by Hulk and Captain America, and Wiccan and Vision (2.0) could be a spin on the children of Scarlet Witch and Vision from the comics. However, Iron Lad is the interesting one. Not only does his entire backstory have to do with time travel, but he is closely (and I mean closely) tied to a very powerful and popular villain that fans have wanted to see for decades, one that Marvel Studios will just so happen to get back from the deal with 20th Century Fox. For anyone interested, I highly recommend checking out Iron Lad’s comic story online.
How the MCU is currently moving forward, a Young Avengers, or rather New Avengers movie seems very fitting. While I personally would like to see a new team formed from the remaining heroes left after Endgame, which I think will happen, who’s to say both can’t operate at the same time? Plus, who knows what can of world or timeline we’ll see following the events of Endgame.
What do you think of this news? If a fan, are you excited for a future movie following a younger team? Which character(s) are you most interested in? Do you hope Marvel plans for a bit later down the road or does it sound like a good plan for now? As more developments are made public, we’ll make sure to let you all know. Stay tuned!
