First Trailer for ‘Us’ Teases Jordan Peele’s Twisted New Film

Universal Pictures has released the first official trailer to Jordan Peele’s upcoming film Us, which is being described as a home invasion thriller. The director, who has been known for his on screen comedy presence, blew on to the scene with his debut film Get Out in 2017. Because of the undoubtedly success of the psychological thriller, every eye was watching Peele closely to see what he was doing next. He quickly grabbed a few different projects, which includes The Twilight Zone, a remake of Candyman and Us, which has had a gigantic shroud of mystery around it until recent weeks.

We received our first look at the film just a week or two ago thanks to Entertainment Weekly. Their reveal of the new film brought first look images and an official synopsis, which you can see below the official trailer. The synopsis teases a very similar feel to Get Out, with a psychological presence seeming to be very strong in Peele’s new story. And if we’re to talk about the transition from synopsis to trailer, it’s one of the best in recent memories. Peele’s mind is unlike any out there when it comes to film. With two movies down thus far, it’s safe to say that he’s the best Black Mirror director working. It just feels like one big cluster-f**k, which is not a bad thing. With how audiences reacted to Get Out, plus the fact that Peele is now someone who people can trust as a director, this film could do some major damage when it comes out next year.

It’ll also be interesting to see what themes play into this film. Peele has come out and said that this story isn’t about race and the trailer doesn’t give off that vibe either. Taking Get Out into account, it’s obvious that Us features much more beneath the surface, even if the trailer felt like it revealed close to nothing.

What did you think of the trailer? Do you love these psychological thrillers Peele has been doing? Is it not really your cup of tea? Let us know in the comments section! Starring Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, Elisabeth Moss, Tim Heidecker, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Anna Diop, Peele’s Us hits theaters on March 15th, 2019.

The story is set in the present day and follows Adelaide and Gabe Wilson (Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke) as they take their kids to Adelaide’s old childhood beachside home in Northern California for the summer. After a day at the beach with the Tyler family (which includes Elisabeth Moss and Tim Heidecker), Adelaide — who’s haunted by a lingering trauma from her past — becomes increasingly more paranoid that something bad will happen to her family. As night falls, the Wilsons see four figures holding hands and standing silently at the bottom of their driveway…
