First Trailer for the R-Rated ‘Hellboy’ Reboot Is Here!

Lionsgate Films and Summit Entertainment have surprised us all and released the first official trailer for their upcoming Hellboy reboot a day early! Neil Marshall (The Descent) is behind the camera for this new, R-rated take on the popular character, which features a script that has been co-written by the comics’ creator Mike Mignola. The majority of us love Guillermo del Toro’s take on the character a decade ago, but having Mignola on board for this version is a huge sign of confidence for both hardcore fans and those of us who just enjoy learning more about this character and the world he operates in. Also, David Harbour of Strangers Things is the big red guy for this one.

This first trailer has been known all week along, originally being planned to drop tomorrow some time. But this morning saw a flurry of information pointing towards the trailer being leaked. That seems to be the case, and smartly, Lionsgate and Summit decided what the hell, let’s drop the trailer early since people are going to try and watch a leaked trailer anyway.

If you are a huge fan of Del Toro’s two movies, don’t get it twisted and think this is going to feel similar in anyway. The reason he never got to do a third movie is because Mignola wanted to reboot it and give the character the R-rating he and most fans believe the character deserves. How R are we talking? Well, this trailer does a pretty good job of teasing of just how far they are pushing the boundary for this character, and I’ve got to say, I’m really digging what I’m seeing. I like the original Hellboy, but I always felt like something was missing. I always felt like he could be pushed just a bit further, and thankfully, this team has done that. From the first footage to comments from the director, I can’t wait to see this character in a Logan style film. Yeah, think about that, Hellboy in a Logan style movie. Wow.

Check out the first trailer below, and as always, make sure to leave all your questions, comments and concerns in the section below! Are you a Hellboy fan? Is David Harbour a great fit? Do you like that they’re going for the R-rating? Also starring Ian McShane, Daniel Dae Kim, Sasha Lane and Milla Jovovich as the Blood Queen, Marshall’s Hellboy is set to be released on April 12th, 2019.
