We have been hearing for a while now that we will be getting a live action version of the Nickelodeon TV series Dora the Explorer. Production for the movie reportedly began in October of 2017 but nothing really resulted from the production. In August of 2018, filming for the movie finally began and finished December 2018.

As for the main role of the Dora, Isabela Moner was cast as teenage Dora, while Madelyn Miranda was cast as young Dora. As for the role of Dora’s cousin Diego, Jeffrey Wahlberg was cast as teenage Diego, while Malachi Barton was cast as young Diego; and yes Jeffrey Wahlberg is the nephew of Mark Wahlberg. Playing the role of Dora’s father will be Michael Pena and her mother will be played by Eva Longoria. Playing the role of Dora’s Abuelita Valerie will be Adriana Barraza. One of the new cast members made for the movie is Inca Princess Kawillaka who will be played by Q’orianka Kilcher. Her character revolves around the plot of the movie.

The plot for the movie is:

“Dora having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents nothing could prepare Dora for the most dangerous adventure ever – High School. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego, and a rag tag group of teens on an adventure to save her parents and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost Inca civilization.”

As far as a “villain” for the movie it was recently announced that Benicio del Toro has been cast as the role as the infamous Swiper the fox. For those of you unfamiliar with his character, Swiper is a fox that wears a purple bandana over his eyes and resembles a burglar in a way. Whenever he shows up on the screen, it is usually because he is about to “swipe” or steal something. Whenever he gets caught it’s because Dora, her friends, and the audience yell out “Swiper No Swipey!”, which stops him from swiping.

The film will be directed by James Bobin who directed films like Muppets Most Wanted as well as Alice Through the Looking Glass. Writers for the movie include Nicholas Stoller and Danielle Sanchez-Witzel. The movie is set for a August 2nd, 2019 release.
