With all the drama surrounding Netflix deciding to cancel their Marvel TV shows like Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and most recently Daredevil, many have been wondering what is going on with The Punisher? Some even feared that we weren’t going to get the second season with the random cancelling that has been coming from Netflix, even though they have not cancelled Jessica Jones. But we can all rest a little but easier now because Netflix announced that The Punisher will be released in January 2019.

We were all introduced to Jon Bernthal’s Punisher in season two of Daredevil where we found him going head to head with Daredevil himself. It was regarded as one of the best seasons of Marvel Television that Netflix had made. Then we were given The Punisher spin-off TV show that gave Frank Castle his own story. Many people were pleasantly surprised at how good the first season of The Punisher was. It even decided to set up the potential villain for season 2 with Ben Barnes’ character Billy Russo becoming one of Punisher’s biggest villains, Jigsaw.

Again, we can’t confirm if this will indeed be the last season of The Punisher, but with the deteriorating relationship between Netflix and Disney, it seems likely that this will be the last season of the show. Hopefully Marvel and Disney do have some type of plan to bring these Marvel shows and at the very least their characters back into the world of the MCU. One of the most disappointing things that fans have spoken up about, is how they don’t want to see these characters come to an end because of how well the actors playing them perform the role.

Charlie Cox and his portrayal of Daredevil is easily the best performance of all the previous Daredevil characters and his supporting cast which includes Deborah Ann Woll’s portrayal of Karen Page or Vincent D’Onofrio’s portrayal of Kingpin have all been amazing. Jon Bernthal and his gloomy always pissed off Punisher has also been another bright spot of Marvel Television. It is really hard at this point to imagine anyone else playing the role of Punisher at this point, so hopefully this won’t be the last time we see him in this role.
