Rejoice Star Wars fans! We’ve been slowly learning more and more on the first ever live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian, and thankfully StarWars.com has made sure we’re all having a fantastic Wednesday by announcing the official cast for the show. Before the news was revealed just a short time ago, all we knew was which director’s would be involved and that Game of Thrones and Narcos alumni Pedro Pascal would be leading the series as the titular character. Now two names have previously been mentioned in Gina Carano (Deadpool) and Nick Nolte, but as I mentioned above, we’ve been gifted with a handful of other incredible names that will be joining them!
Alongside Pascal, Carano and Nolte will be Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Supernatural‘s Emily Swallow, Apollo Creed himself Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi from American Gods and the great Werner Herzog. NOW THAT’S A CAST. In all honesty, I’m pretty shocked at how well rounded this group of actors and actresses is. Each name on that list brings something completely different to the table, which is a huge positive when it comes to the galaxy of Star Wars. With the possibility of being a human, alien or anything in-between, getting such an eclectic cast together is very important. It’s not just these names that leave me excited, but these names working with the director’s they have lined up as well.
On top of having Jon Favreau showunning the entire project, which will no doubt include a few episodes from behind the camera, Dave Filoni (will be directing the pilot), Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) will all be responsible for episodes during at least the first season. Just think about the actors and actresses from above working with these director’s. It’s ridiculous in all the best ways possible. I don’t ever like saying anything like this, but if you weren’t looking forward to this show then or aren’t now, then you’re just absolutely nuts.
I could go on about this all day, but moving on, the announcement also makes sure to note that alongside Favreau, Dave Filoni, Colin Wilson and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy will Be executive producing the show. Only time will tell how much impact the latter two names will have on the show, but from personal experience with them and as a fan, the second we hear the names Favreau and Filoni we know this show is headed in the right direction.
The series is currently deep in production, which could mean more reveals sooner rather than later. As for now, head down to the comments and leave your thoughts on everything The Mandalorian. Are you looking forward to the series? Which casting do you like the most? The Mandalorian will premiere late 2019 on Disney+ alongside the service’s official launch.
