A Prince Themed Musical Is Being Planned at Universal

Musical movies have been around for a long time and always seem to have a special place in moviegoers hearts. Some of the most popular movies are the kinds that take popular songs from various artists and tell a story using those songs. We have seen it done with movies such as Moulin Rouge, who took famous songs by musicians like The Beatles, Madonna, and Nirvana and turn their songs into a part of the story being told in the movie. Another example is Mamma Mia!, who took the Broadway classic which features an all ABBA soundtrack and takes their music and tells a story with it. Well it now seems that that recipe is going to be followed and used to create a whole new story. Only this time the story being told will be told through the music of Prince.

Universal Pictures announced that they have plans to make a movie that will be based onPrince Movie the music made famous by Prince. The studio was quick to say the movie will be it’s own style and will not be a biopic similar to the one released this year, Bohemian Rhapsody, which followed and told the story of Freddie Mercury and Queen. Universal Pictures has reportedly already purchased the rights to a handful of Prince songs and plans to take those songs and create a original movie, which is said to be similar to the way Mamma Mia! is designed.

The studio reportedly went over the idea of doing a biopic movie on Prince but Universal Pictures did not want to create a movie similar to Purple Rain, which is considered to be semi-autobiographical. Another concern obviously is who could even play the role of the iconic Prince? The answer is nobody. Other than the plans for the movie and the purchase of some of Princes songs, not much more is known about the project. Check back here for more details as we find them out!
