Illumination Entertainment has been crushing the animated game lately. Not only do they have the ever-rowing Despicable Me franchise, which includes Minions, but they also have developed such titles like Hop, The Lorax, Sing, The Grinch that’s being released this weekend and just announced they putting a Mario Bros. movie at the top of the priority list. Now you may not have noticed, but one of their main titles isn’t on the list and in my opinion, is heavily underrated as a franchise as a whole: The Secret Life of Pets. The first movie released two years and after a sequel was announced, it’s been all-quiet on the pets front until now. After being silent for nearly two years, Illumination has released the first official trailer for the sequel, and it’s a great time.

I can understand why many people may see this as an average animated series, but for me, I have a connection. I’ve had animals my entire life and am a total lover of dogs, so when this movie and idea came out I was intensity attracted to it. What does my dog do when I’m not home? I’ve always wondered, and while these stories don’t exactly give me the answer, thinking about how my dog could go on a wild adventure everyday to just be home where I left him by the time I get home is pretty fun.

As for this new trailer, as I mentioned above, it’s a great time. Vets are the big bad’s of the animal world, so it only feels right for these stories to at least touch on it. The different animals that Max comes into contact with is absolutely perfect, captured the exact why I imagine them as animals. But the question remains, is this footage just for the trailer or will the movie actually surround a story about the vet? No synopsis or details have been released, meaning it’s up in the air. I would be fine with either. I like the idea of the vet being the villain these animals have to deal with, but I also like the idea of Illumination creating this footage to keep the movie a secret. Either way, The Secret Life of Pets 2 looks like another swell time.
