Can you imagine a Kingsman movie without its leading star Taron Egerton not playing the role of Eggsy? Well it looks like for the third installment of the Kingsman franchise we are going to have to because Taron Egerton has been quoted as saying that he will not be returning to the franchise for the third movie. So what is a Kingsman movie without its leading man? Well it is because of the direction that the movie is going for its third film.

The films director Matthew Vaughn has decided that the next film is going to be a prequel instead of a sequel to 2017’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle. The film is going to be set during World War One, which is quite a bit of time away from where the last two films have taken us. With the film taking us back so far, essentially from 1914-1918, chances are pretty high that we aren’t going to see any of the characters that we have seen from the original two movies. What we could see though is maybe the potential to see how the Kingsman organization came about or some form of it in the past. So how does the movies main star Taron Egerton feel about it?

Egerton was the one who broke the news about him not returning in a press conference for his new film Robin Hood. But at the same time he said that a return to the character is still open and a possibility depending on the direct the franchise takes. In the interview he said,

“I don’t know how hot off the press this is and I think I’m allowed to say it, but I’m not in the next Kingsman movie. We’re still very much in business together, but his next journey in that world doesn’t involve me.”

While it sounds he has made it pretty clear that he won’t be in the third film, nor would it really make sense for his character to be around in World War One. The film itself won’t have him in it but likely for those of the Mark Miller comic book and Matthew Vaughn films, the chance of seeing Egerton again is still a possibility. Currently Kingsman 3 has a date set for its release as November 9th, 2019, so almost exactly a year from now.
