‘The Ballad of Buster Scruggs’ Trailer Reveals the Coen Brothers’ Netflix Film

Netflix has unveiled a brand new trailer for their upcoming collaborated film with directors Joe and Ethan Coen, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. This project was originally suppose to be an anthology series from the Coen’s, focusing on six different stories inside this western setting they have created. After some discussion, the Coen’s decided that the project was suited best if it became an anthology film instead, stringing these stories together into one movie. It features a largely fantastic cast and its new trailer, which you can see below, does a great job and teasing and peaking our interest in seeing just what these six different stories are and how or if they are going to connect.

There are a ton of thrilling and exciting aspects of this new trailer. The cast is outrageous, but it’s the setting that gets me so damn excited. The Coen’s have been crushing movies for years, and while I haven’t personally liked what they’ve done more recently, the idea and execution of this story specifically looks absolutely fascinating. I could totally see this film be an anthology series and would possibly even rather have it be that. But since it’s not, I’ll be looking forward to seeing what kind of characters the Coen’s can develop on screen in a runtime of just a movie rather than episodes of a series.

If there’s one thing that drastically stands out compared to everything else, it’s the look of the movie. The Coen’s always have a distinct look to their films, mainly because they’ve always used real film and not digital. Well, times are a changing! This is the first Coen Brothers film shot on digital. Why? Not only did the expansiveness of the film have to do with it, but they’re working with insanely talented cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel. The Coen’s typically work with legend Roger Deakins, but working with Delbonnel has given the film a magnificent look that fits the western setting extremely well. It doesn’t look like my region will be getting its minor theatrical release, but I will definitely be saving time for this one once it hits Netflix.

Check out the brand new trailer below and make sure to leave your thoughts in the comments below! Would you have rather seen it be a series? How does it look as a movie to you? Will you be checking it out? Starring Tim Blake Nelson, James Franco, Brendan Gleeson, Clancy Brown, Liam Neeson and many more, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs has a limited released on November 8th and will be released on Netflix on November 16th.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is a six-part Western anthology film, a series of tales about the American frontier told through the unique and incomparable voice of Joel and Ethan Coen. Each chapter tells a distinct story about the American West.
