Warner Bros. has released the first official TV spot for their upcoming comic book movie Aquaman, marking the beginning of its official marketing run. Directed by James Wan (The Conjuring, Furious 7), the movie focuses on Arthur Curry who must dive to his mother’s homeward of Atlantis and battle his half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) for the throne before he declares war on the surface world.
The promo run for this movie will extremely interesting over the next couple of weeks. With Warner Bros. trying to shake-up the DCEU and do something different with it, hopefully that includes their marketing strategy. If it follows the pattern that both Batman v Superman and Justice League, we could see a flood of new footage, images, posters and much more right up to the release of the movie. That obviously wouldn’t be a good thing. While it did feel like they strategized a bit better with Wonder Woman, it did seem like that movie was also in our face a little bit too much. If they are truly trying to adjust and just make better moves for this universe, the first step should be choosing the right things to release and the right times to release them. It could make a huge difference for this movie.
On the flip side, the movie still has to be better than anything else in this universe outside of Wonder Woman. With the lack of support we’ve had from this universe, we just need to be reassured that they can churn out good and fun comic book movies. So far, Aquaman looks to be exactly that. I wasn’t sold after its first trailer, but that 5-minute reel that was released not too long ago was KICK ASS. I will no doubt be staying away from watching any other footage because of how high I am on the movie after watching that trailer. Let’s just hope it lives up to the serious potential this movie has…

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be…a king.
