Lionsgate Films and Summit Entertainment have released the first official trailer for their upcoming Liam Neeson led action thriller Cold Pursuit. The film is a remake of the Norwegian title In Order of Disappearance and directed by Hans Peter Moland, the director of the original. It will follow Nels Coxman, a family man whose life is completely turned around when his son mysteriously dies. His search for answers soon turns into a revenge-filled quest that leads him to a drug lord named “Viking.” As Viking’s people disappear one-by-one, Coxman quickly turns into an cold-blooded vigilante who will let nothing stand in his way.
We get a bunch of Liam Neeson led action thrillers, but I must say, this is quite a big turn for your typical Neeson action flick. Sure, it has the same tropes that every one of his movies has, but there’s an element of it that makes this movie much more interesting. I love the icy setting and including Laura Dern as his wife is, as always, a very intelligent move.
To also separate it from his regular action roles and the original movie, it seems to have a bit of dark humor within its veins. We will obviously have to wait and see how it works within the movie as a whole, but it’s an aspect that is rarely included in a Liam Neeson action movie. While he may be doing the same old song and dance, at least he’s doing it with somewhat of a sense of humor this time around.
Check out the first trailer below, and make sure to leave your thoughts in the comments! What did you think of the trailer? Will you be watching it or passing it up? Also starring Emmy Rossum and Tom Bateman, Cold Pursuit will hit theaters on February 8th, 2019.
COLD PURSUIT, an action thriller infused with irreverent humor, stars Liam Neeson as Nels Coxman, a family man whose quiet life with his wife (Laura Dern) is upended following the mysterious death of their son. Nels’ search for justice turns into a vengeful hunt for Viking (Tom Bateman), a drug lord he believes is connected to the death. As one by one each of Viking’s associates “disappear,” Nels goes from upstanding citizen to ice-cold vigilante, letting nothing – and no one – get in his way.
