Venom is now just a week away from being released, meaning the marketing for the movie has been at an all-time high, trying to get everyone excited for what the movie has to offer. Just this week alone has seen Sony reveal two action-packed clips that show Eddie Brock’s violent alter-ego in all his glory. Now we seen a huge batch of new images that give us great looks at some very important supporting characters alongside the eventual transformation that Brock will take on.
While Venom is the man (or thing) of the hour, these brand new images, which will no doubt be the last set revealed until the film itself is released, are very light on the alien symbiote. Most of the images display Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock in action, with my guess being that most of the images are just moments before his alter-ego fully forms. I also enjoy that they’re bringing Michelle Williams into the light a little bit. She’s so under the radar in this film, and while love interests typically have so-so roles in these type of movie, I’m really hoping they use her differently because of how talented she is. Whether or not she becomes a symbiote herself down the line, only time will tell with that one.
My biggest question with this movie is how the balancing act of action and story play out. Unfortunately, we’ve seen Sony flop when it comes to that category, with the first ever incarnation of Venom (played by Topher Grace) being a part of that. I’ve been pretty vocal about my concerns with this movie, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want it to be good. I would be extremely happy to be totally wrong about it. I hope I walk out buzzing, but at this point, I haven’t seen anything that has brought me near that conclusion. But as I mentioned, I’m still holding out hope.
Check out the latest batch of images for the movie, and make sure to leave your thoughts in the comments! Have you liked what you’ve seen? Are you interested in just action but the overall movie? Is Tom Hardy a good choice for this role? Also starring Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze and Reid Scott, Ruben Fleischer’s Venom slashes its way into theaters next week on October 5th.
