Walt Disney Pictures has released a brand new trailer for their upcoming sequel, that’s right, sequel Mary Poppins Returns. Starring Emily Blunt as the high-flyign nanny, Mary Poppins returns to help the next generation of the Banks family find joy wonder that has been missing from their lives following a loss.
This is exactly what I was expecting and wanted from this trailer. It’s everything that Mary Poppins should be, with magic and fantastical adventure. For me personally, there is no better choice than Emily Blunt for this role. She is incredible. And if you’ve seen one of Disney’s more recent musical presentations in Into the Woods, you know that she can sing and capture that exact look and vibe that the character of Mary Poppins requires.
The cast that has been placed around her is extremely interesting and well-done as well. With Lin-Manuel Miranda playing Poppins’ friend, Ben Whishaw playing the other father of the Banks children, plus appearances from Colin Firth and Meryl Streep, this film and story has everything it needs to be a massive success. Not to mention that having Miranda on board for the music alone will more than likely win this film an Oscar come next year.
On a side note, this film is going to make bank at the box-office this Christmas. It has the perfect release slot right before Christmas, and because it’s the only true family film that will be coming out around then, I expect it to absolutely demolish its completion. And yes, it’s competition is Aquaman and Bumblebee. It’s no disrespect to this films, but everyone comes together around that time of year and everyone always wants to go out and see a film. It’ll no doubt be the long overdue sequel to the most popular nanny on the block.
Check out the brand new trailer below, and make sure to leave your thoughts in the comments below! What did you think of the trailer? Are you happy to see a sequel and not a remake? Will you and your family be checking it out this Christmas? Also starring Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh and Dick Van Dyke, Rob Marshall’s Mary Poppins Returns lands in theaters on December 19th.
