First Look ‘Captain Marvel’ Images Reveal Starforce, the Skrulls & a De-Aged Samuel L. Jackson

Yesterday was quite a Marvel-ous days for fans, as Entertainment Weekly treated the world to the first official look at Marvel’s upcoming Captain Marvel. It was headlined by EW’s upcoming Fall Preview issue, which featured Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers suited up in her new Marvel Cinematic Universe duds, which was the debut for the actress and character to everyone. Not shortly thereafter, a huge batch of images for the film were released, teasing a ton of different aspects for Marvel’s first ever MCU female-led comic book movie.

Before we get to the images, Captain Marvel is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck and is set in the 1990s in a world far before super soldiers and high-tech billionaires. It will see fighter pilot Carol Danvers in full control of her incredible powers that originate from The Kree, an alien race who will play a very big role in the MCU prequel. While the story will venture into the depths of space, Danvers will have to team up with young S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Nick Fury and Phil Coulson to take on powerful invaders known as the Skrulls, who are led by Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos. Brie Larson will be joined by a number of new and familiar faces, including Jude Law’s Mar-Vell, Lashan Lynch and Gemma Chan, as well as Lee Pace and Djumon Hounsou who will be reprising their Guardians of the Galaxy roles of Ronan and Korath, as well Clark Gregg and Samuel L. Jackson as popular S.H.I.E.L.D. members Coulson and Fury, both of whom will be getting a special de-aging process to fit the 1990s setting. You can see the work that only seems like Marvel can pull off in an image featuring Jackson’s Fury below.

These first look images are fantastic. They are the perfect tease, and being the first ever glimpse into this film, they no doubt create an insane amount of excitement for Marvel Studios next project. They also reveal every bit of the piece, both on the ground on Earth and in deep space within the Kree ranks. I’ve attached descriptions of each photo and character on the images, with deep thanks to Collider.com. Whether or not a trailer debuts soon (perhaps later today?), these images easily answer a ton of questions we’ve had about the film previously, while also quenching our thirst for our first look at the superhero in Brie Larson that will eventually be leading the MCU down the line.

Take a long gander at the new images below. After doing so, head down to the comments and leave every bit of thought you can think of below! Now that you’ve gotten a look, how excited are you? What do you think of the images? Are you surprised by anytime? Look out for a first official trailer soon, as we’ll have it up on the site as soon as possible! Boden and Fleck’s Captain Marvel flies into theaters on March 8th, 2019.
