In what feels like decades, our first official look at Academy Award winning actress Brie Larson in her brand new Captain Marvel duds has arrived. It feels like this film has been ten years in the making, as the anticipation for it was high before it was even announced. Then it was announced and then Brie Larson was cast in the role of Carol Danvers, which made the geek world go bat s**t crazy In a heartbeat, including myself. And luckily, we now have something to look at for it.
Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, Larson is rocking her new Marvel Cinematic Universe suit in the first look, which will no doubt get fans everywhere insanely excited. Larson is perfect. Not only is she one of the most talented names in the entire game, but we’ve yet to really see her in a film like this one. In a twist, she’s still kind of unknown to the everyday audience, but that’ll change very quickly in the lead up to her solo adventure.
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel is the MCU’s first official female-led installment. While Evangeline Lilly’s Wasp was partnered with Paul Rudd’a Ant-Man in Ant-Man and the Wasp, this is the first time a woman is the title holder for Marvel Stufios. It’s been a longtime coming, and it truly couldn’t have landed on a better hero. From the moment she steps on screen, whether you want to believe it or not, Carol Danvers will be the most powerful hero on the MCU roster. Why do you think Marvel saved her for now? It’s the moment the Avengers and the entire universe need her, and while she’ll no doubt need help from fellow heroes, what she brings to the table is second-to-none.
Captain Marvel is a personal favorite of mine from the comics, mainly because of what she stands up for. She is one of Marvel Comics’ greatest achievements and now that she’s finally being brought to the screen by someone as powerful as Brie Larson, it’s a win-win scenario for everyone involved.
This first look photo is just a glimpse into what this movie will hold. Whether or not it means we’ll be seeing a teaser or full trailer soon, that remains to be seen. Either way, I think we can all agree that this first look was well worth the wait. Also starting Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn, Gemma Chan, Lee Pace, Djimon Hounsou, Clark Gregg, Annette Bening and Samuel L. Jackson.
