Marvel and Netflix have released the second official trailer for the upcoming second season of Iron Fist. Although it’s well known as the weakest of the individual shows Marvel and Netflix have collaborated on, the character of Danny Rand actually got a bit of a boost in the team-up series The Defenders. With the character in different hands for that 10-episode run and an ending that gave an intriguing set-up for what comes next, this latest trailer for Iron Fist only adds fuel to the fire that they’ve finally figured out how to tell the story of this rich character.
One of the biggest complaints about Season 1 of this series was that it just didn’t have a whole lot going on. There were some interesting elements introduced in the show, but they were never really fleshed out like a typical TV series does. That’s why his run on The Defenders was a breath of fresh air, it was a completely new start for the character, and if this new trailer is any indication, his run is just beginning.
This trailer is actually quite badass. The end of The Defenders teased that Danny Rand would be subsequently taking on a Daredevil type role in his next season after Matt Murdock disappeared at the end of The Defenders. New York and its crime is now open for business, and with Daredevil gone, Danny plans on taking it all on himself, now that he’s really beginning to come into his own as the legendary Iron Fist.
The action looks out of this world, something Season 1 really lacked. Finn Jones looks much more comfortable on screen and in the role, with the footage even teasing some fantastic side beats for the supporting cast. Hopefully this means good things for Season 2. The Marvel / Netflix team-up has been pretty slow lately. I really enjoyed The Defenders, but struggled to get through Season 2 of Jessica Jones and actually couldn’t even finish Luke Cage Season 2. Daredevil is an instant lock for me, and The Punisher is The Punisher, but with this Netflix universe featuring so many prominent and really cool characters, I’m hoping Season 2 of Iron Fist can make me believe I can look forward to more than just one or two of the series.
What do you think of the new trailer? What did you think of Iron Fist Season 1? How does Season 2 compare to your thoughts on the first season? Will you watch it immediately or pick it up over time? Also starring Jessica Henwick, Jessica Stroup, Tom Pelphrey, Sacha Dhawan and Simone Missick, Marvel’s Iron Fist Season 2 will debut on Netflix on September 7th.
Season 2 furthers the transformation of Danny, a character with a fish out of water coming of age story making his way in a harsh new world, battling to work out who he is. This season, Danny has promised that with Matt Murdock gone, he will step up and protect his city. But a sinister plot twist threatens his very identity and he must conquers his villains to protect the town and people he holds close to his heart.
