Sony Scraps ‘Silver & Black’ Movie; Will Become Individual Films

Sony has been gearing up to make their Spider-Man universe a reality and we will be getting our first taste of it when Venom hits theaters October 5th. Sony has also been talking about a lot of projects that they have in mind that they want to bring to the big screen. Some of those include Morbius, Kraven the Hunter, Silk, Jackpot, and Nightwatch. But one of the longest rumored projects was about Silver Sable and Black Cat, two popular female characters from the Spider-Man universe. The two characters seemed to have been solidly moving towards a movie after Venom. The movie was titled Silver & Black and even had director Gyna Prince-Bythwood attached to direct. But things have recently changed.

According to Variety, the movie featuring the two characters has officially been scraped and two separate solo movies will be made. One will be about Silver Sable and the other about Black Cat. It sounds like also the studios first movie will be about Black Cat as Columbia Pictures President Sanford Panitch had said:

“We believe Black Cat is enough of her own character with a great backstory and a canon of material to draw from to justify her own film”

While nothing has officially been set in stone, Gina Prince-Bythewood will have the option of whether or not to direct or just be a producer as she had previously been director as well as writer for Silver & Black.

So what do you think? Do you think it was a smart move on the part of Sony to scrap Silver & Black? Or should they have kept it going and just stuck with the plan? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
