20th Century Fox has released a brand new trailer for Alita: Battle Angel. Based on the acclaimed graphic novel by Yukito Kishiro, the story follows a female cyborg who is found in a scrapyard by a compassionate doctor after being abandoned. Rebuilt in a better form than before, Alita (Rosa Salazar) learns to navigate the deadly street of Iron City, and if she can stay out of the hand of those in power, she could very well be the key to saving everyone and everything around her.
This film has been in the works for a very, very long time. James Cameron came extremely close to directing the project in the early-2000s before choosing Avatar as his next big tentpole blockbuster. Cameron still stayed close to the project as co-writer, with his writing partner Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Machete) being in charge as director.
I would have to agree that there is definitely an audience for this type of movie. Obviously, the followers of the acclaimed graphic novel will probably be flocking to the theater, but it’ll be interesting to see how regular movie-goers will adjust to it. It’s something that feels like something we’ve seen before, but with it’s special blend of live-action and CGI, it’s a toss up as to how audiences will react to it. Rosa Salazar isn’t your typical leading action star, so the movie will have to depend on trailers and the star power of names like Waltz and Jennifer Connelly, because I don’t think a film with the headline “from visionary filmmaker James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez” is enough to get butts in the seats.

Also starring Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley and Keean Johnson, Alita: Battle Angel hits theaters on December 21st.
From visionary filmmakers James Cameron (AVATAR) and Robert Rodriguez (SIN CITY), comes ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, an epic adventure of hope and empowerment. When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize, she is taken in by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo (Keean Johnson) offers instead to help trigger her memories. But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past – she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control. If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she’s grown to love.
