The Wizard Has Been Cast In DC’s ‘Shazam!’

The DCEU is trying to make a strong swing in the right direction and start to correct things in an effort to make their cinematic universe more successful. Wonder Woman was the start of something many considered to be a move in the right direction but when Justice League came out it seemed all but a lost cause. Hopefully Aquaman which will be released later this year will help get the train back on the right track. Following that in April we will be getting Shazam! which stars Zachary Levi and many people are quite excited about the movie.

For those of you unfamiliar with Shazam!, the story follows a young scrappy and streetwise kid named Billy Batson, Billy eventually meets a Wizard who grants him the powers of the Gods of Olympus and allows him to turn into a muscle-bound hero by yelling out the name “Shazam!”, well we now know who will be playing that Wizard. Many believed for a long time the This Is Us actor Ron Cephas Jones would be playing the role but apparently he quietly bowed out due to a scheduling conflict and Djimon Hounsou has been confirmed as the Wizard. Djimon Hounsou may look familiar in the universe of comic book movies as he played Korath the Pursuer, in Guardians of the Galaxy.

When it comes to Shazam! I personally don’t really know anything about the DC character. Although I love Djimon Hounsou because his voice always makes him seem like a mysterious character so I think him playing a powerful Wizard is a pretty cool casting. So what do you think about this casting? Are you excited for Shazam! and the addition of Djimon Hounsou as the Wizard? Let us know in the comments below!
