‘Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween’ Trailer: It’s Slappy’s Time to Shine

Sony Pictures has unveiled the first official trailer for their upcoming sequel Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween. The first movie wasn’t a movie many were looking forward to a few years ago, but ended up being one of the most charming movies of the year thanks to a commitment from director Rob Letterman and stars Jack Black and Dylan Minnette. Sadly, none of those names are returning for the second-go-around, but tat doesn’t mean someone can’t pick up where they left off.

One of the most universally loved aspects of the original movie was Slappy, the blood-craving ventriloquist dummy who wants nothing more than to release all of R.L. Stine’s monsters on the world. While it’s very unfortunate that Letterman, Black or Minnette isn’t returning, director Ari Sandel pulled the smart move by putting a lot more focus on the psychotic personality of Slappy.

The trailer is fun, it is. It really does feature the same vibe the original had a few years ago. It is just a trailer, but I’m shocked at how much I enjoyed watching this trailer. I’m interested in what kind of adventure they have ready for us with Haunted Halloween. While I obviously don’t want more of the same, I also want more of the same because of how much joy the first brought out in me.

Check out the first trailer below and make sure to leave your thoughts in the comments! Are you interested? Do you wish either or both Black and Minnette were back? Is this the perfect Halloween movie? Sandel’s Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween stars Jeremy Ray Taylor, Ken Jeong, Chris Parnell, and Wendi McLendon-Covey and is released on October 12th.
