‘Black Widow’ Movie Director List Winding Down

The announcement of a Black Widow movie definitely caught a lot of fans by surprise. A lot of fans wanted it but never thought that it was something Marvel was going to do, but Marvel has made it very clear that they are very serious about this movie and how they want to go about it. Marvel has made it know the they want this movie to be heavily female driven from on-screen to off screen. That has shown especially when it comes to directing the movie. It’s said that Marvel has interviewed around 65 directors and almost all of them have been women, proving Marvel isn’t messing around. But four names seem to be at the top of the list.

The first is Australian director Cate Shortland. Shortland directed the movie Berlin Syndrome which is described as a psychological horror thriller. Currently many believe the she is the frontrunner to get the role of director for the Black Widow movie, but not don’t think that it is a lock just yet.

The second director is Amma Asante. Asante is a British director who is also a screenwriter. She is known for directing historical dramas Belle and A United Kingdom, which stars David Oyelowo and Rosamund Pike. She is currently directing a spy thriller called The Billion Dollar Spy. Asante could be a big statement for Marvel as she is would be their first woman of color directing a movie.

The third director is Maggie Betts. Betts is known for directing her debut movie Novitiate, which was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and received a Jury Award for her direction. Like Asante she would also make a big statement in the directorial department as she would also be the first woman of color to direct a Marvel movie.

The fourth director is Kimberly Peirce. Peirce is probably the most known of the directors as she has directed films such as the Carrie remake and she directed Hilary Swank in her Oscar winning role in Boys Don’t Cry. She also would be quite the statement director for Marvel, as Peirce is a proud Lesbian and would make her the first gay woman to direct a Marvel movie.

As you can see Marvel is definitely making sure they find the right director for the Black Widow movie. They are vetting ever director that even pops into their mind and the four that a reported to be the frontrunners are all fantastic choices. Only time will tell who lands in the directors chair, but rest assure the right choice will be made. So what do you think about these directors? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
