Netflix has released the first trailer for their upcoming apocalyptic thriller How It Ends. Starring Theo James and Forest Whitaker, the story follows a husband and his estranged father-in-law as they embark on a dangerous journey across a burning country to save his pregnant wife.
While Netflix does make some bucks off their corny romantic comedies, when it comes to drama or more serious tone films, I’m usually completely on board. Since they decided to start making original films, the company has made some seriously credible films and have attracted some big names to be featured in them. How It Ends is just the latest, and I’m 100% in on it.
The apocalyptic thriller is definitely overused these days, but I’m quite interested in the idea of making it feel like a road trip. It allows the story to venture into many different places, which will allow us as viewers to experience a country that’s fracturing into dozens of different pieces by many different perspectives. I like Theo James as an actor (Divergent gave him a bad rap) and Forest Whitaker is Forest Whitaker. With Netflix backing the movie and them usually creating some time-worthy projects, that leaves me anxiously awaiting the arrival of the film.
Check out the first trailer below and make sure to let me know your thoughts in the comments! How do you like the trailer? Does it interest you at all? Or is it something you’ve seen too many times before? Also starring Kat Graham, How It Ends debuts on Netflix on July 13th.
