Everything Isn’t Awesome in the First Trailer for ‘The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part’

Warner Bros. has released the first official trailer to The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. The highly anticipated sequel is brought to us by Mike Mitchell (Shrek Ever AfterSky High) and will follow our favorite bricked friends on an all new adventure across outer space to battle and defeat a new threat: the LEGO DUPLO invaders. Emmet, Lucy, Batman and others travel to unexplored territory where they will be tested to restore harmony to the LEGO universe.

It actually took me longer than a year or so to even sit down and watch the first movie. Even with all the outrageously positive buzz about the film, I wasn’t all that interested. I will say, after watching it I did wish I would have seen it in theaters because of the theater experience it would have offered. It’s a raging good time, and this new trailer for the sequel promises The Second Part will do the exact same for fans. Everyone is back and while Phil Lord and Chris Miller aren’t directing this one, it still very much feels like the same thing we received with the first, just different.

How different? Well, everything ins’t awesome this time around. The beginning very much feels like a Mad MaxTerminator setting, which hooked me right away. From there we learn that it won’t just be earth bound this time, as our favorite characters will be traveling to distant worlds, one specific that will be musical themed. With these characters, that should no doubt be quite an interesting, and hopefully fun, part of the story.

While I did just like the original, it’s safe to say I enjoyed what the second has to offer through this first trailer thus far. It hits every box that the first did, while also bringing a bit of a new flavor to it. The LEGO Batman was a total hit, but nothing has topped The LEGO Movie so far, hopefully the sequel can do just that. Check out the new trailer below, and make sure to leave your thoughts in the comments! Featuring the voices of Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie, Tiffany Haddish, Stephanie Beatriz, and Arturo Castro, The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part arrives in theaters on February 8th.

The much-anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed, global box office phenomenon that started it all, “The LEGO® Movie 2: The Second Part,” reunites the heroes of Bricksburg in an all new action-packed adventure to save their beloved city. It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are facing a huge new threat: LEGO DUPLO® invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild.

The battle to defeat them and restore harmony to the LEGO universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds, including a strange galaxy where everything is a musical. It will test their courage, creativity and Master Building skills, and reveal just how special they really are.
