Lionsgate Films has released the first trailer for the long-awaited, but not really sequel to 2013’s Escape Place, starring Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The sequel, titled Escape Plan 2: Hades, sees Stallone’s Ray Breslin breaking in, rather than breaking out. Teaming up with Dave Bautista, Breslin must find a way into the world’s most unknown prison, Hades, where his kidnapped team is being held.
Before we get into the trailer, yes, this sequel is going straight to home video. With that in mind, it’s got to be one of the best looking straight to Blu-ray/DVD movies made available over the last number of years. It looks to have a pretty good production size, which could result in some fun, especially since the trailer teases some pretty cool action scenes and a tech-filled prison that should hold off Sylvester Stallone for at least a little bit.
Am I bummed that Stallone’s ’80s action rival isn’t around for this one? Of course! Whether or not the original was a slight disappointment or not, it’s always fun to see Stallone and Schwarzenegger on screen together. They respect the hell out of each other, but always have fun on screen with a jab-like relationship. Replacing him with Bautista should add an interesting little wrinkling, especially if they use his strength when it comes to action scenes.
What did you think of the trailer? Were you a fan of the first? Have you been waiting for a sequel? Directed by Steven C. Miller and also starring Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Huang Xiaoming, Jaime King, Jesse Metcalfe and Titus Welliver, Escape Plan 2: Hades will be released on home video on June 29th.
Years after he fought his way out of an inescapable prison, Ray Breslin (Academy Award® nominee and Golden Globe® winner Sylvester Stallone) has organized a new top-notch security force. But when one of his team members goes missing, Breslin must return to the hell he once escaped from to save his friend from the prison’s brutal human battleground known as Hades.
