First ‘Robin Hood’ Trailer Reveals Taron Egerton’s Young & Gritty Archer

Lionsgate has unveiled the first trailer for their upcoming origin tale Robin Hood. Starring Taron Egerton as the legendary hood, director Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders) takes this origin story in a direction that few can, as we see Robin of Loxley and Little John mount a thrilling, action-packed revolt against the English Crown.

When it comes to Robin Hood, the tale of the hero who takes from the rich for the poor, this is completely out of left field. Like far left field. But when you take into account the directors previous work and everything they’ve said about this project in the past, this is exactly what I was imagining. Is it ridiculously bonkers? Absolutely, but I’m 100% in on it.

It’s simple and does a nice job of drip-dropping the whole “superhero genre” thing all over the place, but Bathurst has created something tonally different from what I imagine when I think of Robin Hood that I’m all over it. If I wanted the Robin Hood I imagine, I’d watch the animated movie. If I want a live-action movie, this is exactly what I want. Does it have to be the greatest movie of all-time? No. I know exactly what I’ll be getting into later this year. To see his archery skills come to life on the screen with a director like Bathurst and performed by a dude like Taron Egerton, pumped. Can’t wait for November.

Check out the first official trailer below and make sure to leave your thoughts in the comments! Are you with me or on the complete opposite side? Also starring Jamie Foxx, Ben Mendelsohn, Eve Hewson and Jamie Dornan, Bathurst’s Robin Hood will be released on November 21st.

Robin of Loxley (Taron Egerton) a war-hardened Crusader and his Moorish commander (Jamie Foxx) mount an audacious revolt against the corrupt English crown in a thrilling action-adventure packed with gritty battlefield exploits, mind-blowing fight choreography, and a timeless romance.
