After the success of Star Trek Beyond two years ago, it’s quite surprising that Paramount hasn’t pushed harder or quicker on a fourth movie. A story was in place, but nothing ever came of it, until now. It’s been revealed that the studio has, in fact, been pushing forward with the project, as S.J. Clarkson has been hired to direct Star Trek 4.
Clarkson, who is best known for her work on some of televisions best show, such as Dexter, Jessica Jones, The Defenders, Orange is the New Black, Bates Motel and Banshee, will use this movie as her film directorial debut.
While details on the sequel are pretty minimal at this point, it’s expected to see Chris Hemsworth return to the role of Captain Kirk’s father, George Kirk. If you remember, he died in the opening scene of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot in 2009, but as the report first stated when back when, the fourth movie is said to feature a time-travel element that allows Chris Pine’s Kirk to meet his father George in the Kelvin timeline.
Officially, the only Enterprise crew member who is set to return is Zachary Quinto, but because of how important the other characters are, I’m not too nervous about the others not joining in on the fun. That just means that Paramount is going to have to draft up some new contracts for Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg and John Cho. If Paramount really has future plans for Star Trek, then this may be the bullet they aren’t too worried about taking a bite out of. No official release date has been set as of yet.
