Jessica Chastain Fights for Sitting Bull in the First ‘Woman Walks Ahead’ Trailer

A24, the studio that brought you Ex MachinaMoonlight and Lady Bird, has released the first official trailer for their upcoming period piece Woman Walks Ahead. The film is directed by Susanna White and stars Jessica Chastain as Caroline Weldon, a painter who moves from Brooklyn to the Dakota Territory to paint chieftain Sitting Bull, but ends up helping the chieftain save his land and people.

When it comes to A24, I’ll pretty much watch anything they put out. The last number of films over the past couple of years are absolutely phenomenal, and all well-deserving of the Oscar consideration they get. For Woman Walks Ahead, I didn’t know anything about this film before the trailer dropped this morning, but I’m glad I now do.

Jessica Chastain is currently my favorite working actress. The works she continues to put out on a regular basis isn’t only different, but always exciting. Not every film she’s in is perfect, but her performances are always incredible, which is why I’m looking forward to this one. Period pieces give actors and actresses the opportunity to showcase the true talent they have. Not only that, but this is based on a true story, and we all know how I feel about true stories.

Watch the first trailer for the film below, and make sure to leave your thoughts in the comments! Did the trailer interest you? Are you interested because of Chastain or another reason? Also starring Michael Greyeyes, Sam Rockwell, Ciaran Hinds, Woman Walks Ahead has a limited release on June 29th.

Set in the 19th Century, Caroline Weldon moves from Brooklyn to the Standing Rock Reservation in Dakota Territory to help Sioux chieftain Sitting Bull keep the land for his people.
