Warner Bros. has released a batch of new images for their upcoming blockbuster Rampage, which stars Dwayne Johnson and Naomie Harris and is directed by San Andreas helmer Brad Peyton. The high-resolution images give us our first real look at the genetic-edited monsters that The Rock and his biceps will be going up against.
Based on the classic arcade game of the same name, Johnson plays Primatologist Davis Okoye, a man who would rather spend time with his best friend George, an intelligent silverback gorilla, rather than people. But their bond is upended when a rogue genetic experiment mutates the gorilla into a giant monster. It’s soon discovered that George isn’t the only monster out there, as Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, stop a global catastrophe, and save his friend before the creatures lay waste to North America.
These images don’t do a whole lot for me, as they feel like stills I’ve seen through all the trailers so far. The only interesting thing these new looks reveal is how scary the monsters look. The designs of both the wolf and crocodile are very detailed and actually pretty terrifying. They don’t just look like your everyday animals, which will hopefully add an interesting element to the movie when Johnson and George team-up to take the rogue monsters out (we know it’s coming, come on now).
Take a closer look at the images below and let me know your thoughts in the comments below! Did you play the arcade game? How do the trailers look? Are you excited for it? Also starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Malin Akerman, Joe Manganello and PJ Byrne, Rampage hits theaters on April 13th.
