2018’s blockbuster season is officially a go. Marvel’s Black Panther exploded into theaters last month, leaving no doubt that the days of having just 5 or 6 months out of the year filled with theater-worth movies are over. In the last three weeks, we’ve had four major releases in Black Panther, Annihilation, Game Night and Red Sparrow. In my opinion, all four deserve the ticket price your theater is asking. This week will feature Disney and Ava Duvernay’s A Wrinkle in Time, but next week, next week we’ll be seeing the surprisingly awesome looking Tomb Raider, and I couldn’t be more excited.
This video game reboot from Warner Bros. has really been picking up speed for me. I’ve always been ecstatic for this movie because of Alicia Vikander, but I always had a feeling of hesitancy because I just didn’t know about the video game genre. But as footage began to be released, I began to become more and more confident in the kind of movie they’re giving us. It looks fun, action-packed and completely entertaining. Vikander is the absolute perfect choice to play Lara Croft, Walter Goggins is obviously one of the best bas around, and it has source material that fans have been raving about since 2013. I mean, that just feels and sounds like the blueprint for success, right?
With the movie now just over a week away, 8, that’s right, 8 clips have been released to either excite those already excited fans, or turn the table for some who still may be on the fence. If there’s one thing these clips offer, it’s that this rendition of Lara Croft will be far different from the fun, but ultimately disappointing versions that starred action legend Angelina Jolie. Alicia Vikander is Lara Croft, no question.
Check out the huge batch of clips below and after doing so, head down to the comments and leave your thoughts below! Are you looking forward to it as much as I am? Why or why not? Do you think it will finally break the video game curse? Directed by Roar Uthaug, Tomb Raider also stars Daniel Wu and Dominic West and is released on March 16th.
