Marvel’s Black Panther looks like it’ll be dominating the box-office, and hearts of fans, for quite a while. But if you’ve already seen the film once, or twice, or more at this point and are looking for something new and different, then look no further than Alex Garland’s Annihilation. If you haven’t seen a trailer for the new sci-fi film or even heard of it, I can’t express how much you are missing out.
There’s only one true reason why you and everyone else should be looking forward to this film: Ex Machina. For myself, that film changed my whole perspective on what sci-fi and film can be. It’s phenomenal, from start to finish, and it never gets old. While I can’t wait to see Garland take on a Marvel or comic book property in general, or maybe even a Star Wars film, I am undoubtedly excited for what his latest story has to offer. Just as with Ex Machina, the trailers not only look incredible, but also so insanely confusing with what’s going on. I just hope my excitement and hype for the film doesn’t become too much and I’m not disappointed with what early critics are calling masterful work.
The film hits theaters this weekend, and if you’re still scratching your head a bit about the film, here’s a trio of new featurettes that have been released, focusing on three different, but very important aspects of the film. Starring Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson, Gina Rodriguez, Benedict Wong and Oscar Isaac, Annihilation is released this Friday, February 23rd.
