If there’s one thing the marketing for Pacific Rim: Uprising has proven so far, it’s that Legendary Pictures has definitely put as much backing as they possibly can behind the project. Trailers, posters and so on have continued to shown just how big they’re going with the sequel, with its latest being the biggest.
Throughout the yearly calendar of movies, there’s always a handful of movies that are made for the biggest screen possible, IMAX. Of course, you have your comic book movies and Star Wars, the Transformers franchise and others, but this year, Pacific Rim: Uprising looks like it deserves to be seen in IMAX. The first Pacific Rim, directed by Guillermo del Toro, was a monster movie. Giant robots having huge showdowns with Godzilla like monsters. Uprising, which is directed by Steven S. DeKnight, looks to have taken the giant robot vs. giant monster fight to an entire new level.
If you haven’t felt like the sequel feels big enough yet, this new IMAX trailer below will no doubt change your viewpoint. I hope it doesn’t show everything fun the movie has to offer, but the trailers features some pretty big action sequences, as well as teasing others. I understand why some may not like these movies, but I go in knowing what to expect, and I am completely satisfied with what I watch. I’ve been somewhat critical of the sequel so far because of my undying love for the original, but I really am hoping it gives me just as much satisfaction as the original.
Check out the new IMAX trailer below! Are you looking forward to Uprising at all? What do and don’t you like about the trailers? Holding a March 23rd release date, DeKnight’s Pacific Rim: Uprising stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Tian Jing, Rinko Kikuchi, Burn Gorman and Charlie Day.
John Boyega stars as the rebellious Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the monstrous “Kaiju.” Jake has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. But when an even more unstoppable threat is unleashed to tear through our cities and bring the world to its knees, he is given one last chance to live up to his father’s legacy by his estranged sister, Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi)—who is leading a brave new generation of pilots that have grown up in the shadow of war. As they seek justice for the fallen, their only hope is to unite together in a global uprising against the forces of extinction.
Jake is joined by gifted rival pilot Lambert (Scott Eastwood) and 15-year-old Jaeger hacker Amara (Cailee Spaeny), as the heroes of the PPDC become the only family he has left. Rising up to become the most powerful defense force to ever walk the earth, they will set course for a spectacular all-new adventure on a towering scale.
