With Star Wars: The Last Jedi now having a month under its belt in theaters, Disney and Lucasfilm are now looking to their next major Star Wars adventure, Solo: A Star Wars Story. We’ll no doubt be getting a first look trailer very soon, but until then, the studio has given us an idea for what to expect with the films official synopsis.
The troubles this film has gone through over the last year are no secret. It all began with early rumors of acting issues, but was topped off by the shocking firing of directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, which may or may not have been over creative differences. In came Ron Howard, who was originally going to finish the final weeks of production, but ultimately reshot over 80% of the film, officially making it his film. All of the behind-the-scenes problems had us all wondering if the studio was ever going to push its release date, but as confirmed by its official synopsis, the galaxy far, far away will be making a return to May with Solo:
Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a seres of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.
“Solo: A Star Wars Story’ releases in U.S. theaters on May 25, 2018.
As I mentioned earlier, it’s very likely that we’ll be receiving a first trailer in the next few weeks, perhaps the Super Bowl in the beginning of February. The head scratcher is still its release date. It’s pretty great that Star Wars will be making a return to May, where it all originally began way back in 1977, but this is a different kind of May. It’s one of, if not the most crowded month of the year, whereas December has become holy ground for the franchise over the last 3 years. By the time the film is released, both Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2 will be in theaters for a few weeks, which will give it at least a shot at a good box-office pull. That’s if movie-goers are actually looking forward to another new Star Wars, let alone a Han Solo spinoff.
As we now make the four month trek to Solo at the end of May, all will be revealed along the way, and hopefully, it gets more than just the average Star Wars fans psyched for what this film has to offer. Starring Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Emilia Clarke and Woody Harrelson, Ron Howard’s Solo: A Star Wars Story flies into theaters on May 25th.
