Sandra Bullock & Cate Blanchett (Re)Assemble a Unique Cast in the First ‘Ocean’s 8’ Trailer

Warner Bros. has released the first official trailer for Ocean’s 8, the all female spinoff film from Steven Soderbergh’s George Clooney led Ocean trilogy. Directed by Gary Ross, Sandra Bullock stars as Debbie Ocean, who following getting out of prison, attempts to pull off the heist of the century at New York’s Met Gala, but assemble the perfect crew to do so.

The trailer is a fun little set of footage. It’s not fantastic or anything, but it’s just below great and does its job by getting me interested in this spinoff story. I wasn’t a big fan of the all-female Ghostbusters reboot, and sadly wasn’t from the beginning, but this is one I can get behind. If there’s a franchise I’d love to see pull the all-female card out, it’s this one because of the potential of cast and story.

Obviously the cast is fantastic, which is led by Bullock and Cate Blanchett. The great thing about it is how absolute diverse it is. Each name is from a different side of the business, with drama, comedy, TV and even music being represented. And while it does seem to have similar beats to the original trilogy (why wouldn’t it?), it already looks different and dynamic enough to get me excited for it.

Check out the first trailer below and after you do, let me know what you think in the comments. Do you like them going back to this franchise? How about the cast? Did the trailer sell you? Ross’ Ocean’s 8 is released on June 8th, 2018 and stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter.
