Disney Wants Director Rob Marshall for the Live-Action ‘The Little Mermaid’

News regarding Disney’s The Little Mermaid has been silent for some time now, but it seems like the live-action adaptation may finally be moving forward. As reported by Deadline, it’s been revealed that Disney has set their eyes on Rob Marshall, as he is the studio’s top choice for the director’s chair.

Accordning to Deadline, Marshall has been offered the job, and now it’s up to Marshall on whether or not he wants it. The report says Marshall will take the time during the holidays and announce his decision after. Marshall just recently directed Mary Poppins Returns for Disney, and if Marshall is the top choice for the studio, that means they are very pleased with what he did with that film and want to lock him down for at least another story under their umbrella.

The Little Mermaid name, just as with Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast, will most definitely attract many eyes and bodies, so it makes sense as to why Disney would want someone who they not only have worked with before, but have good relations with.

Along with upcoming news on The Little Mermaid, look out for a major Disney take over in the coming weeks and the beginning of next year. Not only is a deal between the Mouse House and 20th Century Fox imminent, but the studio also has live-action adaptations to other animated classics in the works, such as The Lion King and Aladdin, on top of everything else they have in the world of Star Wars and Marvel. When are we going to start paying our taxes to Disney? The Little Mermaid currently has no set release date.
