I know a lot of us (myself included) were jumping up and down when Disney and Lucasfilm announced that they were going to create an Obi-Wan Kenobi anthology movie. The first thing I wanted to know was, when is this movie going to be made! Well thanks to Omega Underground we might have our first clues on to when the movie will begin production.
Omega Underground has reported that filming will begin in January 2019 at Pinewood Studios UK. If this is intact true, then we could be looking at a potential 2020 release date. This would line up with Disney’s plan to release a movie every year for the foreseeable future with Solo being released next year in 2018, and the conclusion of the new trilogy with Star Wars Episode IX in 2019.
While we don’t know much about the movie beyond that its called Obi-Wan Kenobi, rumors have been speculating that the movie will take place after Episode III and Episode IV and tell the story of Obi-Wan Kenobi after he exiles himself to Tatooine. We also don’t know who will be playing Obi-Wan Kenobi but one could hope that Ewan McGregor will reprise his role for the movie. The final rumor was in August of this year, The Hollywood Reporter said that Lucasfilm was looking to hire three-time Oscar nominated director Stephen Daldry to helm the movie but nothing has been announced.
