2018 marks a significant and important year for Marvel and their Cinematic Universe. 10 years ago in 2008 Marvel began one of the most ambitious undertakings in film history. They were going to be making a timeline of movies featuring different characters who share the same timeline. The movies would be divided into phases and would eventually come together to team up and fight one great enemy. The idea was unheard of and never been done before. None of this would have kept going if it wasn’t for one movie………..Iron Man.
On May 2, 2008, Marvel released the movie that began it all, Iron Man. Played by Robert Downey Jr., the movie was a box office smash as Robert Downey Jr. played Tony Stark to perfection. The movie made 585.2 million and green lit the Marvel to go forth with their Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fast forward to now and with 2018 quickly approaching, we will be getting not only our first black lead superhero movie in Black Panther, but the beginning of the end of Phase 3.
On May 4, 2018 Marvel will release the first of two Avengers movies that will serve as the conclusion to Marvel’s first 3 Phases. Avengers: Infinity War will be the beginning of the end leading up to the unofficially titled Avengers 4 in 2019. Once that movie is released that will serve as a finale to a lot of characters from the first 3 phases of movie dating back to 2008. But don’t panic just yet! We already know of 2 movies that are going to come after Avengers 4 which is Guardians of the Galaxy vol.3 and Spiderman 2. What really is exciting is that Kevin Feige himself was quoted saying:
“22 movies in, and we’ve got another 20 movies on the docket that are completely different from anything that’s come before — intentionally.”
There you have it folks! From the man himself, Marvel has another 20 movies slated to be made. Where they take them is anybodies best guess. One of the things that has a lot of people speculating is Disney and Feige’s repeated interest in acquiring Fox and gaining back the rights to the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. Personally, I don’t think that the 20 movies have plans including those two franchises but I wouldn’t be opposed in the slightest!
So what do you guys think! Are you ready and excited for 20 more Marvel movies? Where do you want to see the Marvel Cinematic Universe head? Let’s have a discussion in the comments below!
