2018 is going to start off with quite a big bang in February, as Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is set to hit worldwide mid-month. The Ryan Coogler film looks phenomenal in more ways than one, but a standout that seems to have lost no steam is the look of the film. The cinematography looks to be second to none for the comic book film, but the costume design is the highlight. We’ve been able to marvel at fantastic action sequences and great character moments through trailers thus far, but we continue to be lost inside the costumes of the film, with these brand new character posters being no different.
Ruth E. Carter is the designer who will no doubt be getting some kind of recognition next year, and as we can see if these new posters, the work her and her team have done is, in my eyes, some of the best I’ve ever seen. The details in each character is remarkable, something that only the best of the best are able to capture in a one-sheet.
The characters featured are Chadwick Boseman‘s T’Challa, Angela Bassett’s Ramonda, Letitia Wright’s Shuri, Forest Whitaker’s Zuri, Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia, Danai Gurira’s Okoye, and Andy Serkis’ Ulysses Klaue. A surprising absence is that of Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger, which leads me to believe that something bigger may be planned for the character (one can hope). Coogler’s Black Panther also stars Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke and Sterling K. Brown and hits theaters on February 16th, 2018.
