Joss Whedon Says ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Is a “Modern Masterpiece”

Marvel seems to have yet another massive hit on their hands, as Thor: Ragnarok has been getting absolutely stellar reviews since the first word of mouth hit last week. With its release now under a week away, more and more people are beginning to see it, with many already claiming that Ragnarok is one of the best to ever come out of the MCU, if not the best. One of those many is former Marvel man himself Joss Whedon, who is now pushing Justice League across the finish line.

Whedon has the most history with MCU, as he not only directed what’s considered the best MCU film to date in The Avengers, but Avengers: Age of Ultron and served as a consultant on the majority of Marvel’s Phase Two films, as well as the pilot episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. As early screenings are now in full force for Ragnarok, Whedon recently saw the film where he then took to his Twitter afterwards to give Taika Waititi’s film the highest praise:

@joss: “Here’s the thing: @TaikaWaititi has made a modern masterpiece. Epic, hilarious, gorgeous, heartfelt, and hilarious. I’m SO HAPPY

Although Whedon’s thoughts are just one of many opinions that are out there, it does hold hold quite a bit of significance considering the reputation Whedon has in the world of comic books movies. His time in the MCU may be over (for now), but after a much needed break from the world of superheroes and interconnected universes, Whedon is now making his stamp in Warner Bros.’ DCEU. He was not only brought in to complete Justice League after the tragic situation with Zack Snyder and his family, but he’s also developing a Batgirl movie for the studio as well.

At the end of the day, whether it comes from some schmoe in the middle of nowhere or Whedon, it’s just a fantastic thing to see all the positive word of mouth revolving around this movie. The Thor franchise was in much need of some flavor, and according to nearly everyone, Taika Waititi is exactly what the series of movies needed.

Thor has personally been one of my favorite Marvel heroes, and it’s damn time he gets a solo outing everyone can enjoy. With Whedon claiming it’s hilarious, epic and hilarious again, that’s exactly what I’ve always hoped for for this hero. Waititi has not only brought a sense of adventure and color to the film, but to the MCU overall. Whedon’s comments leave me even more excited to see the kind of adventure Waititi has crafted for the God of Thunder and his team of Revengers. Thor: Ragnarok smashes into theaters this Friday on November 3rd.
